Statistical Evaluation of Induced Seismicity at the Karkheh Dam, Iran
Karkheh Dam is the largest dam in Iran with a capacity of about 7.4×109 cubic meters and height of 127 meters. Since the first impoundment, increasing in seismic activity in the dam area has been observed that indicates the possible occurrence of reservoir-induced seismicity (RIS).In the present work, a preliminary evaluation is conducted firstly in order to investigate these observations. Base...
متن کاملFirst mammal fossil locality from the late Miocene of Zagros, western Iran
A new and the first mammal fossil locality from the Zagros Basin of Iran is reported here. The fossil locality, known as Dimeh, is located in the Lorestan province, west of Iran. The fauna includes abundant bovid cranial remains, mostly representing boselaphines and palaeoryxoids, as well as gazelles and spiral horned antelopes. Hipparionine horses similar to Hippotherium group are also represe...

Late Pleistocene groundwater discharge deposits (paleowetlands) in the upper Las Vegas Wash north of Las Vegas, Nevada, have yielded an abundant and diverse vertebrate fossil assemblage, the Tule Springs local fauna (TSLF). The TSLF is the largest open-site vertebrate fossil assemblage dating to the Rancholabrean North American Land Mammal Age in the southern Great Basin and Mojave Desert. Over...
متن کاملThe History of Veretebrate Fauna in Eastern Georgia
At the end of the Middle Miocene the Caucasus represented a land forepart, the geographic position of which induced the development of peculiar flora and fauna in Eastern Georgia. On the territory of Eastern Georgia several reference fossil vertebrate sites are discovered, among them its worth mentioning Udabno (Maeotian), Dzedzvtakhevi (Maeotian), Iaghludja (Sarmatian-Maeotian), Kvabebi (Akcha...
متن کاملThe Importance of Keeping the Island’s Vertebrate Fossils in the Public Domain
INTRODUCTION The origin of Madagascar’s highly endemic vertebrate fauna remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of natural history. From what landmasses did the basal stocks of this unique and imbalanced fauna come? When and how did the ancestral populations arrive on the island? How rapidly did they diversify, and why? The most direct means of addressing these questions, and other enigmas ...
